How do phone numbers work?
Phone numbers or DID (Direct Inward Dialing) numbers are assigned to your PBX.IM account and allow calls to be directed to specific phones within your organization without the need for an operator or manual intervention. In PBX.IM , you can purchase as many phone numbers as you need.
Please note that cost of these numbers is not included in the Payment plans , however when up set up your account one phone number is automatically included for free.

Buy a phone number
If you want to purchase a new phone number, click on "Add Number" and a pop-up will appear.
Before proceeding further with purchasing a phone number, make sure you have a valid payment method. If you assistance you can read more in this section: Manage Your Account & Billing
Country
Select the country for which you want to purchase the phone number.
State
After selecting the country, you can choose a specific state within that country for the phone number.
Type
You can choose the type of phone number you want to add. The options available in the dropdown menu are:
Geographic: A number tied to a specific geographic location, such as a city or region. These numbers are often used by businesses to establish a local presence in different areas.
National: A number that is not tied to any specific geographic location within a country. These numbers can be used for nationwide services.
Mobile: A number that is associated with mobile phone services. These numbers are used similarly to regular mobile phone numbers.
Toll Free: A number that allows callers to reach a business or service without being charged for the call. These numbers are often used for customer service lines and typically begin with prefixes like 800, 888, or similar.
Area code
This allows you to choose a specific area or city code for a geographic number.
SMS Enabled Toggle
This switch allows you to enable or disable SMS capabilities for the phone number.
After completing all the fields above, simply click "Search," and PBX.IM will return the phone numbers that meet your criteria.
Once you click on ''Search'' you will see all the phone numbers under the following columns:
Prefix/Number
The prefix or area code of the phone number, represented as "+1 (XXX) XXX-XX-XX", where XXX indicates the specific area code and local number range.
City
The city associated with the specific geographic phone number.
Type
The type of phone number, which in our case is "Geographic", meaning it is tied to a specific location.
Setup
The one-time setup fee for activating the phone number.
Monthly
The recurring monthly cost to maintain the phone number. Each number, from our example, costs $1.26 per month.
Min. Period
The period represents the shortest time frame that you are required to pay for and keep the number active.
Minute
This field shows the per-minute charge for incoming or outgoing calls.
Connect
The connection fee for each call made using this phone number.
SMS
Indicates whether SMS (text messaging) is enabled for the phone number. A checkmark (✓) signifies that SMS is available.
Available
The number of phone numbers available for that specific city.
Quantity
Allows you to select the quantity of phone numbers to purchase for a specific city. In our example it is default to 0. You can buy maximum 10 per number.
Unit Cost
The cost you will have to pay per unit.
Let's take an example and say we choose to buy the first number. Y ou need to select the number and click on ''Checkout''.
You will see a pop-up displaying the number you selected, the associated costs, and the total amount to be paid. After verifying that this is the purchase you want to make, click "Buy Now."
Checkout
A pop-up will appear, prompting you to confirm your payment and indicating the credit card that will be charged.
Confirm Purchase
If you don't have a card assigned, you will have to add one. The pop-up looks like this:
Each purchased phone number comes with 2 channels, allowing it to handle up to two simultaneous calls. If you encounter any issues, please contact us at help@pbx.im .
Edit a phone number
If you want to edit a phone number you previously purchased, return to the main page, where you can see a list of all the numbers you’ve purchased.
The path is: Log in to PBX.IM → Call Routing → Phone Numbers. Select the number you want to edit and click on 
.

Fax option
This dropdown allows you to specify how the virtual phone number will handle fax communications. The options available are:
- Voice Only Destinations: Routes calls only to voice destinations, not handling fax communication.
- Voice With Fax Detection: Detects if an incoming call is a fax and routes it accordingly. When this option is selected, additional fields such as "Detect Timeout," "Ringback Tone," and "FaxBox" become available. Detect Timeout - allows you to set the number of seconds the system should wait to detect whether an incoming call is a fax. Ringback Tone - you can choose the sound a caller hears while waiting for their call to be answered. FaxBox is a digital mailbox for faxes where detected faxes will be routed.
- Direct Fax: Routes all incoming communications directly as a fax. When this option is selected, an "Emails" field appears to enter the email addresses where faxes will be received.
Destination
This dropdown menu lets you choose the destination where incoming calls to this phone number will be routed. You can choose between the following options:
- User
- Time Condition
- Endpoint
- Queue
- Announcement
- Forward
- IVR
- Voicemail
- Ring Group
- Conference
Description
A text box where you can enter a description for this phone number. This field is useful for adding notes or helping you with identifying the purpose of the phone number.
Labels
This field is used for tagging or categorizing the phone number with labels, making it easier to organize and search for in a list.
Calls Caller ID
This dropdown allows you to specify who should see the Caller ID when calls are made using this phone number. The options available are:
- Nobody: No one will see the Caller ID.
- Everybody: The Caller ID will be displayed to everyone.
- Selected: Allows you to specify particular users or teams who will see the Caller ID. If you select this option you will see 2 additional options: Users and Teams where you can choose who you want to add.
SMS Caller ID
Similar to the "Calls Caller ID" field, this allows you to set the Caller ID that will be shown when sending SMS messages from this phone number. You will have the same options as above: ''Nobody'', ''Everybody'' and ''Selected''.
Abort Cancellation
Another option available is to abort the cancellation of a specific phone number. Choosing this option will place the phone in a pending cancellation stage. If you do not use this option, the phone number will be deleted on the date indicated below the button.
